This is what search engine optimization is based upon.

It can be very intimidating when researching search engine optimization, as there is a lot of information about it on the web. Or, you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. One of the first things you should look at is the title of your web page at the top of your online browser.

The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Go to your website home page and look at what the browser says. It is important to have your company or main keyword phrases in the title bar to increase search engine rankings.

You also need to see what your other internal pages show on the title bar. All the title bar’s for every page should contain the most relevant phrases and keywords for that page. Try to only have around six words or less for each title bar phrase. Make sure you don’t have repeated words next to each other, or just avoid repeating the same keywords more than once.

The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. The text on your pages must contain the most important keywords, and the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site.

Each page should consist of around 100 - 250 carefully chosen words, with your selected keywords and phrases. To achieve good rankings in the search engines, having this text is essential. The search engines must be able to read the text in HTML format, and not graphics.

You want to see if your website text is in HTML format, and to do this, simply highlight a selected text within the body of your website, and if you can do so, it’s ok. If the text will not become highlighted, it is more than likely in graphic form. If so, ask your webmaster to change the text to HTML format in order to achieve better search engine rankings.

After this, you should take a look at your websites meta tags. In reality, meta tags don’t play a bog part in your search engine rankings. But, it is still worth adding them just in case the search engines take this into consideration.

To check if your meta tags are set up correctly, select “view” on the menu browser bar, then “source”. A new window will open. If you have meta tags, you will see them located at the top of the window. You should see meta name=”keywords” content=. Have your webmaster put this code into your website if you do not have it.

The last thing is link popularity. The most important factor. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites that have linked to you. Having this directs more quality traffic to your website, and also increases search engine rankings.

All businesses should include a search engine optimization campaign in their marketing strategy. The higher you rank in the search engines, the more exposure you have in your market, which means more sales.
