It’s always a pain to run into unexpected errors on your device. One such notorious issue is “Verification failed. There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server.” This can occur on any iPhone, iPad, and Mac when logging into iCloud or the iTunes and App Store. This usually occurs because of a network connectivity issue, and if not resolved, you will not be acmes iCloud, iTunes, or the App Store. Fortunately, there are several things you can try to resolve the problem and fix the verification failed error.
- Check Apple’s System Status Page
- Check Your Network Connection
- Set Date & Time Automatically
- Log out of the App Store and log in again
- Restart your Device
- Reset Network Settings
- Change your Apple ID Password through the Website
- Use Verification Code
- Turn Off VPN
- Update your device
Before trying to fix the error, you should check if there’s a server problem as Apple’s systems might be facing a problem. To check this on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, go to Apple’s system status page
Check if all the services are available. In case there’s an issue with any, it’s a good idea to wait until Apple fixes the problem.
But if all the dots are green, then the problem is on your end, and you can troubleshoot using the following tips.
Sometimes, there might be some issue with your network connection, so it’s good to toggle it off and back on.
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → WiFi. Toggle OFF the switch.
Wait for about 20 seconds, and then toggle it back ON again.
On Mac, click on the WiFi symbol in the top menu bar and select Turn WiFi Off. Then, wait a few seconds and select Turn WiFi On.
You should also make sure that you’re connected to the fastest WiFi network available.
If the problem persists, it’s worth trying a different network connection. Connect to an alternative WiFi or Cellular network.
You should make sure that the date and time are correctly set on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Settings → General → Date & Time.
- Turn ON the toggle next to Set Automatically.
Also, make sure that you have chosen the right time zone.
On your Mac, click the Apple Logo in the menu bar → System Preferences, then choose Date & Time. Now, make sure that “Set date and time automatically” are selected.
Before doing this step, make sure you know your Apple ID password so that you can use it to sign in again.
- On devices running iOS 14, go to the Settings and tap on your Apple ID at the top.
- Tap on Media and Purchases.
- Tap on the person icon at the top left and select Sign Out of Store.
Once signed out, you should sign in again and see if you still face the verification error. If the problem persists, continue trying the next steps below.
Note, On iOS 13, you will have to go to Settings → iTunes & App Store and tap on your Apple ID to sign out.
Several technical glitches can be solved by restarting or force restarting your iPhone or iPad.
On iPhone X, 11 or later, and iPads with Face ID: press and hold the side button and the volume up (or down) button together until you see the power off slider.
Drag the slider to turn off your phone. After a minute, turn it back on again by pressing the side button until you see the Apple logo.
On iPhones and iPads that have a Home button, press and hold the side or top button until you see the power off slider. Drag the slider to power off. Then wait a minute and hold down the side or top button until the Apple logo appears.
On a Mac, click on the Apple menu at the top of the screen and then select Restart.
This step will erase all your WiFi passwords and settings, so make sure you remember them before proceeding. It will not affect the data on your phone.
- Go to Settings → General.
- Scroll down and tap on Reset.
- Select Reset Network Settings. You might have to enter your passcode if required.
- Confirm by tapping Reset Network Settings on the pop-up box.
Sometimes, it might be that your Apple ID password no longer meets Apple’s strength requirements. This might cause the verification issue, so you can resolve it by changing your password through the website.
You can do this from any device with an internet connection.
- In any browser, go to Apple ID Website.
- Under Manage your Apple Account, enter your Apple ID to sign in.
- Now, enter your Apple ID and Password.
- Under the Security section, click on Change Password.
- Enter your current (old) password, and then set a new one. Type it in twice to confirm. You might have to verify your identity by answering security questions or inputting a verification code.
Once done, you will need to update it on all your devices. After that, hopefully, you’ll not face the verification issue again. But if you do, there are still some more tricks to try, as explained below.
At times, the verification error is triggered because your iPhone cannot sync with your Apple ID. For this, you can try to use a verification code to confirm your login. But you will need another iPhone for this.
- Sign in with your Apple ID on another iPhone
- Go to Settings and then tap on your Apple ID.
- Tap on Password and Security.
- Now, tap on Get Verification Code and enter the code into the iPhone that’s facing the verification error and see if the issue gets resolved.
If you still have no luck and the verification error persists, you should avoid using VPN. If you’re using any VPN apps on your device, you should completely uninstall them as they might be hampering your device’s connection to Apple servers.
If all else has failed, a final solution is to ensure that your device is updated to the latest software version.
On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings → General → Software Update.
If an update is available, tap on Download and Install and then follow the onscreen instructions.
On Mac, click on the Apple Logo in the menu bar and select System Preferences, followed by Software Update. Follow the instructions to install any available updates.
